This four-year plan is a general roadmap to navigate the exciting and sometimes overwhelming world of career
exploration and preparation. Please know some degree programs may take more than 4 years depending on course
load and other factors. Connect with a career counselor for a customized career plan tailored to your goals.
First year (0-29 units)
• Explore the Career Center website
• Complete career assessments through Focus2
• Complete your Handshake profle
• Meet with a career counselor by making an
appointment on Navigate
• Join a student club or organization
• Attend career workshops and career fairs
• Identify a mentor on campus

Sophomore (30-59 units)
Junior (60-89 units)
• Research jobs and careers by attending career
fairs and using online resources.
• Have your resume and cover letter reviewed by a
career counselor
• Attend a career fair related to your chosen career
• Participate in learning opportunities by
volunteering, job shadowing, engaging in
internships, research, and more.
• Attend a career workshop related to your goals
• Continue working with your mentor
• Brand your professional identity (LinkedIn
and social media)
• Network with professionals, faculty, staf,
employers, and alumni at campus events
• Research graduate or professional programs
and attend information sessions
• Update and revise your resume/cover letter
• Attend career fairs and apply for internships
